Pineywoods Native Plant Center receives grant to provide programs for at-risk youth

NACOGDOCHES, Texas-Stephen F. Austin State University's Pineywoods Native Plant Center has received a grant from Texas Parks and Wildlife for "Nacogdoches Naturally," a program that offers outdoor education and recreational programming for underserved youth in the Nacogdoches area.

The $35,000 grant will support after-school and summer activities for at-risk youth, as well as weekend activities for the students and their families.

Partners in the program include the Boys and Girls Club of Nacogdoches, Texas Forest Service, Pineywoods Audubon Society, City of Nacogdoches, SFA Garden volunteers, SFA Latino Legacy, SFA Outdoor Pursuits, SFA Team GEO and the U.S. Forest Service.

"If it weren't for the support of our partners, this program just couldn't happen," said Elyce Rodewald, education coordinator for the Pineywoods Native Plant Center. "It's exciting to expand our programs into after-school and weekend family programs."
