Local artists' work available through SFA fund-raiser

June 24, 2009

Local artists' 12-inch-square artwork that is included in the SFA School of Art's "12 x 12" scholarship fund-raiser will be on display at The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House in downtown Nacogdoches Friday, July 3, through Friday, July 10. Summer hours are 12:30 to 5 p.m., Tuesday through Friday, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday.

Over 50 pieces by community artists and SFA faculty members and graduate students will be displayed anonymously and available for pre-sale through Friday, July 10, at a cost of $250 each.

"This is your chance to have first pick and build or add to your art collection," said Marty Prince, president of SFA Friends of the Visual Arts. "And once you purchase the piece, we'll reveal the artist's name!"

At the closing party from 7 to 9 p.m. on Saturday, July 11, each unsold piece will be available for $100.

"This promises to be one of Nacogdoches' most unique artistic events," Prince said. "We encourage the public to come enjoy the music, food and beverages at the closing party, and to help raise money for scholarships benefiting SFA visual arts students."

The Cole Art Center is located at 329 E. Main St. For more information about the fund-raiser, which is being conducted by the SFA Friends of the Visual Arts, please call (936) 468-1131.
