NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The Orchestra of the Pines will close its season with its "Joyful Celebration" concert at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 25, in Cole Concert Hall on the campus of Stephen F. Austin State University.

"The music for this evening is a colorful variety exemplifying the wonderful talent of the School of Music," said Gene H. Moon the orchestra's music director. "Brahms' Second Symphony is a beautiful, lyrical and pastoral work, contrasted by Bernstein's 'Candide Overture,' a feverish, virtuosic overture that screams excitement from the opening and leaves the audience exhilarated."

Two members of the SFA music faculty will bring further excitement to the program, according to Moon.

Associate Professor of trumpet Gary Wurtz will be the guest soloist for Alexander Arutunian's Trumpet Concerto, a piece which will highlight the trumpeter's passion for music and performing, Moon explained.

"Additionally, we will be performing the world premiere of Dr. Stephen Lias' 'Prince William Sound,' which was written specifically for this concert," said Moon. "It is so important for us as a music community to embrace new music, especially that which is written by our own here in Nacogdoches."

The concert is a joint presentation of the SFA College of Fine Arts and School of Music. It is sponsored in part by Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital and the Wedgeworth-Wright Endowment for the Arts.

Cole Concert Hall is located in the Tom and Peggy Wright Music Building, 2210 Alumni Dr.
