SFA to offer children's drawing class

April 14, 2009

NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - Area 6- to 12-year-olds may register for an art workshop on pen and ink drawings offered by the Stephen F. Austin State University School of Art from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 25, at The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House, 329 E. Main St. in downtown Nacogdoches. The class is part of the monthly Creative Art Saturday program.

Participants will see examples of artwork done using pen and ink and learn abut the various techniques of lettering in India ink, explained Marsha Blount, SFA assistant professor of art education. The students will then use India ink as they practice classic pen and ink drawing and create a still life in the medium.

Matthew Sutherlin, SFA instructor of art, and SFA art education students will assist Blount with the class. The $10 registration fee covers the cost of materials. Parents may re-register at The Cole Art Center during normal hours (12:30 to 5 p.m., Tuesday through Sunday) or by e-mailing Blount at blountmarsh@sfasu.edu. Class size is limited to 20.

"We ask that parents escort the children to and from the classroom that is on the second floor of the center," Blount said. "Parents are also welcome, but not required to stay."
