February 26, 2009 - Kayli Steger

NACOGDOCHES, Tex.-The Stephen F. Austin State University School of Social Work will celebrate its 30-year anniversary with a daylong celebration on March 6. The event also will launch the Legacy Campaign, a new fundraising initiative designed to help recruit and retain students to meet the state's need for social workers.

The event will begin with an opening reception at 10 a.m. followed by guest speaker Jim Armsworth, the School of Social Work's first director. At noon, the event will continue with an open house and facilities tour with food and refreshments. The day will culminate in an anniversary ceremony from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. with a tribute to the late Dr. Linda Morales, former director of the school.

"In the past 30 years, SFA's School of Social Work has trained nearly 1,500 social workers, who have changed the lives of many individuals, families and communities," said Freddie Avant, associate dean and director of Social Work. "The Legacy Campaign serves to continue strengthening the opportunities for our students to have these experiences."
