February 24, 2009

NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The SFA A Cappella Choir's spring concert at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 5, will feature some of the music the choir will be performing during its May tour to Italy.

"We invite the East Texas community to Cole Concert Hall to hear a portion of the program we will be singing at St. Peter's Basilica in the Vatican City, St. Mark's Basilica in Venice and Santa Maria Maggiore in Florence," said Tim King, SFA director of choral activities and the A Cappella Choir's director.

The preview program includes "Veni Creator Spiritus" by the Spanish Renaissance composer Tomás Luis de Vittoria, and works by two modern Texas composers: "Missa Brevis" by Robert Young and "Sacrum Convivium" by Peter Matthews.

The 52-member choir will also perform songs by Joseph Haydn, Antonín Dvorák and J.S. Bach. These will be guest conducted by Jennifer Lewis, Kingwood graduate student, in partial fulfillment of the requirements for her master's degree in choral conducting.

The concert is a joint presentation of the SFA College of Fine Arts and School of Music. Cole Concert Hall is located in the Tom and Peggy Wright Music Building, 2210 Alumni Dr. on the SFA campus.
