NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The tuba and euphonium program at Stephen F. Austin State University will open its annual Octubafest with Adam Frey's Guest Euphonium Recital at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct 9, in Cole Concert Hall on the SFA campus. Admission is free.
"Frey is one of the most prolific euphonium artists in the world, spending his time commissioning and performing for one of classical music's youngest instruments," explained J.D. Salas, SFA instructor of tuba and euphonium.
"We are excited about Adam's upcoming performance, and especially his world premiere of 'Pearls 2,' a piece that Roland Szentpali completed for him just last month," Salas continued.
Frey and pianist James Pitts, SFA staff accompanist, will also present works by Hugo Alfven, William Brusick, Jacques Casterede, Jiro Censhu, Peter Graham and Giacomo Rossini.
While on campus, Frey will present a master class to SFA tuba and euphonium players.
A native of Atlanta, Ga., Frey received his musical training at the University of Georgia and the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, England. For more information on Frey or to hear samples of his playing, visit www.euphonium.com.
