SFA to offer children's puppet-making class

January 26, 2010

NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS-Area 6- to 12-year-olds may register for a puppet-making class offered by the Stephen F. Austin State University School of Art from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 6, at The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House as part of the Creative Art Saturday program.

Under the guidance of SFA Instructor of art Matthew Sutherlin and art education majors, participants will discuss the art of puppetry and engage in the creation and performance of puppets.

Additional Creative Art Saturday programs for the spring include "Artistic 'Threads': Wearable Art" on March 6 and "The Art of Installation: Modular Installation Art" on April 24.

Registration for each workshop is $5 and covers the cost of the materials. Parents may pre-register by e-mailing Sutherlin at sutherlime@sfasu.edu. Registrations will also be accepted 30 minutes prior to the class, as space permits. Class size is limited to 20.

The Cole Art Center is located at 329 E. Main St. in downtown Nacogdoches.

"We ask that parents escort the children to and from the classroom that is on the second floor of the center," Sutherlin said. "Parents are also welcome, but not required, to stay."
