Hearing Impaired (Deaf and Hard of Hearing)
This program is designed to qualify students to teach hearing-impaired children in all grades. Personnel certified in the hearing-impaired program introduce various methods of teaching the deaf and hard of hearing, provide instruction in communication devices and language systems used by the deaf and hard of hearing, including American Sign Language and Manually Coded English Systems, and utilize research studies relating to deafness. A pre-interpreter training minor for those interested in educational interpreting is also offered. To be eligible for a teaching certificate, people also must complete the professional education courses.
