Guest artists and faculty ensemble to perform at SFA

NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The Stephen F. Austin State University College of Fine Arts and School of Music will present two recitals on Sunday, March 28, in Cole Concert Hall on the SFA campus.

At 2:30 p.m., guest artists John Lane, percussion, and writer Ann McCutchan will present "Musically Speaking," a celebration of the art of combining spoken word and music in performance. Admission is free and open to the public.

Lane, an internationally recognized recitalist, composer and educator, is an assistant professor of percussion at Sam Houston State University. McCutchan teaches creative writing at the University of North Texas and is the author of "The Muse that Sings: Composers Speak About the Creative Process."

At 7:30 p.m., the Piney Woods Camerata will perform its sixth concert. The conductor-less string ensemble, led by SFA string faculty members Jennifer Dalmas, Gene Moon and Evgeni Raychev, will be joined by SFA music faculty David Howard, baritone, and Geneva Fung, piano, in presenting three masterpieces from the baroque period.

The program will include Arcangelo Corelli's Concerto Grosso Op. 6, No. 6 as a part of the group's mission to perform all 12 concerti grossi of the Italian composer and violin virtuoso before the 300th anniversary of his death in 2013, explained Raychev.

Tickets are $5 for adults, $4 for seniors and $2 for students.
