SFA Trombone Choir concert slated

NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS -The Trombone Choir at Stephen F. Austin State University will present a wide array of music during its spring concert at 7:30 p.m. Monday, April 12, in Cole Concert Hall on the SFA campus.
The 20-member choir will perform works spanning almost 400 years, some of which were originally written for a trombone ensemble and some that have been transcribed or arranged for the instrument, explained Deb Scott, SFA assistant professor of trombone and the group's director.
"Audience members will get to hear how well a trombone choir can emulate the sound of an organ as the ensemble plays a transcription of Girolamo Frescobaldi's 'Toccata,' and they'll recognize the beautiful, well-known melody of "Adagio" from Claude Saint-Saëns' Symphony No. 3," Scott continued.
The choir will perform another well-known piece, Paul McCartney and John Lennon's "Yesterday," arranged by Dr. A.C. "Buddy" Himes, dean of the SFA College of Fine Arts and a trombonist.
Also included on the program are two energetic pieces written for smaller trombone ensembles-James Kazik's "The 'Hex Files'" and "Piece for Six Trombones" by Burrill Phillips.
Cole Concert Hall is located in the Wright Music Building, 2210 Alumni Dr.
