NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The SFA Percussion Ensemble will present its annual fall concert at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 4, in Cole Concert Hall on the SFA campus.

A highlight of the program will be all 13 percussionists performing "At the Dawn of War," a work written in 2005 by Houston composer Kevin Erikson that depicts different episodes in a day at war.

"The piece moves the listener through a collage of musical colors from calm beginnings, to angry conflict (complete with chains smashing the ground), to exuberant celebration," explained Dr. Scott Harris, SFA associate professor of percussion and the group's director.

The program also includes smaller chamber ensemble works such as "Marimba Quartet" by Daniel Levitan and Mark Ford's "Head Talk," a choreographed piece performed on a variety of old drum heads.

The Percussion Ensemble will close the concert with Billy Barber's "Invention," an upbeat jazz selection.

The concert is a joint presentation of the SFA College of Fine Arts and School of Music. Cole Concert Hall is located in the Wright Music Building, 2210 Alumni Dr.

Tickets are $5 for adults, $4 for seniors and $2 for students. For tickets or more information, please go to www.finearts.sfasu.edu or call (936) 468-6407 or (888) 240-ARTS.
