American Democracy Project at SFA to host panel about post-9/11 issues

NACOGDOCHES, Texas-As part of Constitution Day celebrations, the American Democracy Project at Stephen F. Austin State University will host "The U.S. Constitution in a Post-9/11 World" at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 15, in Dugas Liberal Arts North, Room 142.A panel of SFA faculty members will offer perspectives on constitutional issues in light of the events of 9/11. A question-and-answer session will follow. Dr. Alan Baily, assistant professor of political science, will discuss freedom of religion and freedom of speech since 9/11. Dr. George Franks, assistant professor of criminal justice, will offer a presentation titled "The Constitution and the Courts after 9/11: Criminal Justice as an Approach to Fighting Terrorism." Dr. Cindy Pressley, assistant professor of public administration, will present "Do Terrorists Have Rights to a Trial?"
Dr. Steven Galatas, associate professor of political science and campus coordinator of the American Democracy Project, will serve as moderator.
The American Democracy Project is a nationwide effort to promote civic engagement on university campuses. The ADP is a non-partisan effort linking more than 250 members of the American Association of State Colleges and Universities.
The campus community and the general public are invited to attend, and admission is free.
