The profession of social work can provide a varied and rewarding career. It is a career of service and contribution; an opportunity to work with people in need and make a difference. Students who graduate with a degree in social work are eligible to become licensed social workers and to work in social work positions.
The generalist approach develops the knowledge, skills and values necessary to perform social work with individuals, families, groups, organizations and communities in a variety of settings, with varied problems and diverse client groups. In many social welfare agencies, social workers are the primary providers of services. Several of the settings in which social workers are employed are:
