SFA to present student-directed 'Medusa's Tale'

NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The Stephen F. Austin State University School of Theatre will present a student-directed production of Carol Lashof's "Medusa's Tale" at 2 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 4, and at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 5. All performances will be in the Downstage Theatre located on the first floor of the Griffith Fine Arts Building.The one-act play is a spin on the ancient Greek myth about the demi-god Perseus and Medusa, the snake-haired creature who could turn humans into stone. This version portrays Medusa as a victim of the gods rather than as a monster, explained Sunnyvale senior Mai Lê, the show's director.
British exchange students Abigail Watton and Lolade Rufai portray Medusa and Athena, respectively; Dallas freshman TaDaris Jones plays Perseus; and Marshall junior Christopher Dawson portrays Poseidon.
Previously at SFA, Lê directed "Philip Glass Buys a Loaf of Bread" and assistant directed "The Saga of Cuchulain." In March, she will be the assistant director for "Art."
Her design credits include costumes for "One for the Road" and hair and makeup for "The Saga of Cuchulain." On stage, Lê has acted in 10 SFA productions, most recently in "The Uninvited," "Breasts of Tiresius" and "The Philadelphia."
