Nacogdoches Naturally to host family day trip to Angelina National Forest

April 24, 2013

Enjoy the beauty of spring in East Texas as Nacogdoches Naturally hosts a family day trip to the Boykin Springs Recreation Area in the Angelina National Forest on Saturday, May 4.

Located on Boykin Creek and Boykin Springs Lake in the Angelina National Forest, the recreation area offers activities like camping, hiking, fishing and picnicking. Wildlife is abundant, and the region is a hot spot for migratory birds.

Backpacks, binoculars, magnifiers, field guides, fishing gear and cameras will be available for check out at the event.

"Nacogdoches Naturally outings are a great way for families to visit local recreation areas with minimal planning and packing responsibilities," said Kerry Lemon, project director.

"Our staff is there to assist, educate and engage families in fun recreational activities."

Planned activities are designed to cultivate outdoor skills and provide an appreciation of nature while developing a lifetime enjoyment of the natural world. All programs are family-friendly and appropriate for all ages.

Participants will meet at 9 a.m. at the SFA Pineywoods Native Plant Center, 2900 Raguet Street, and ride in SFA vans or caravan in his or her own vehicle to the recreation area. Travel time is approximately one hour and 20 minutes, and the group will return around 4 p.m. Nacogdoches Naturally will provide a picnic lunch.

Cost for the event is $15 per family using their personal vehicles. If SFA van transportation is needed, the cost will be $25 per family. Space is limited, so register early.

Nacogdoches Naturally Family Outdoor Adventures is a project sponsored by SFA Gardens in the Arthur Temple College of Forestry and Agriculture and funded through a More Kids in the Woods grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture U.S. Forest Service.
