Thursday performance of 'Godspell' canceled

June 27, 2013

NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The Thursday night opening of the Stephen F. Austin State University School of Theatre's performance of "Godspell" has been canceled due to the death of the fiancé of one of the cast members, according to Scott Shattuck, director of the School of Theatre.

SFA theatre major Kolton Culberson, 23, died as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident that occurred Wednesday night in eastern Nacogdoches County. His fiancée, Mary Creath, is among the cast members of "Godspell."

Plans are under way to open the production at 7:30 p.m. Friday, June 28, in W.M. Turner Auditorium.

"We appreciate our audience's patience at a painful time," Shattuck said. "Everyone in the School of Theatre extends our deepest sympathies to Mary and her family and to the Culberson family, as well as all of Kolton's friends here at SFA and beyond."

Thursday night ticket holders will have the option of attending any other "Godspell" performance of their choice or receiving a refund for the cancellation, according to Diane Flynn, SFA Fine Arts Box Office manager.
