Fall Meeting of East Texas Historical Association announced

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The East Texas Historical Association, headquartered on the campus of Stephen F. Austin University, will hold its annual Fall Meeting Sept. 26-28 at the Hotel Fredonia in downtown Nacogdoches.
The program features approximately 100 historians and students who will make presentations on historical subjects of interest to all East Texans. Among the session topics are: "City of Nacogdoches Historic Sites Survey;" "Black Women Historians and Their Topics;" "Tales of the Early Texas Republic;" "Race and Reform in East Texas;" "Early Twentieth Century Religion;" and a women's history panel.
During the Friday lunch, attendees will hear a talk from Heino Erichsen titled "The Reluctant Warrior: A POW Remembers." Erichsen is a former soldier in the German Army of World War II who was interred at the Hearne POW Camp. After the war, he immigrated to the U.S. and now lives in The Woodlands with his wife, Jean.
A plated banquet on Friday evening, Sept. 27, will feature an address by association President Bruce Glasrud titled "Anti-Black Violence in the 20th Century." A reception honoring first-time attendees, students and Fellows of the association will precede the banquet. A nominal registration charge allows for entry to all sessions for the entire length of the meeting. There is also a special one-day registration. Both can be purchased at the event, along with tickets to all meals.
The East Texas Historical Association was founded at SFA in 1962 and is dedicated to the preservation and enhancement of East Texas' great historical heritage. The Association actively encourages the preservation of historical buildings and, through its primary publication, The East Texas Historical Journal, strives to publish and make known the rich history with which this section of Texas is endowed.
