SFA to test emergency preparedness

May 9, 2014
NACOGDOCHES, Texas - If you see firefighters, police officers, paramedics and sheriff's deputies flocking to the Stephen F. Austin State University campus Wednesday, don't panic. It is only a drill.

Emergency responders and SFA employees will run a full-scale emergency operation preparedness exercise from 1 to 5 p.m. May 14. In addition to university police officers, the Nacogdoches Police Department and fire department, county sheriff's office and EMS will participate.

The drill will be confined mainly to the south part of campus, near Lumberjack Village. Use of the outdoor siren and JackAlert system will be part of the training drill.

For the public's safety, as well as the effectiveness of the drill, anyone not participating in the event is asked to stay clear of the area. This will maintain the integrity of the exercise and also allow for the best understanding of SFA's preparedness.
