NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The Nacogdoches Art League will open "The Webster Show" at Friday, Oct. 24, at The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House, 329 E. Main St. in downtown Nacogdoches.

The exhibition is the brainchild of local artist Wally Knight, who has chosen 26 pages from a dictionary, one page for each letter of the alphabet. In turn, 26 local artists and members of the Nacogdoches Art League have each taken a page and used it as inspiration to create art in a variety of media.

Photographs of the inspirational pages, taken by Dr. Michael Roach, SFA retired professor of art, will be hung near each art piece.

Knight said the exhibition's concept came to him while he was musing on the unanswerable question, "What is 'art'?" The act of literally looking in a dictionary for a definition led him to more questions, rather than answers, and "a light bulb went off," he said.

Artists' entry fees for the exhibition will fund the Nacogdoches Art League Scholarship Fund.

The show will be displayed in the upstairs hallway of The Cole Art Center and will run through Sunday, Nov. 9. The public is invited to a closing reception at 3 p.m. on the show's final day.

Regular gallery hours are 12:30 to 5 p.m., Tuesday through Sunday. Admission is free.
