NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - Five Stephen F. Austin State University musicians who make up the SFA Faculty Brass Quintet will present a concert at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 2, in Cole Concert Hall.

Faculty members Charles Gavin, horn; J.D. Salas, tuba; Deb Scott, trombone; Gary Wurtz, trumpet; and graduate student Jarrod Beard, trumpet; will perform a varied program of chamber music that includes American composer Arthur Franckenpohl's "Brass Quintet" and Elgar Howarth's arrangement of Giles Farnaby's "Fancies, Toyes and Dreams," featuring Renaissance dance styles.

The quintet will also perform "Brass Calendar" by Peter Schickele, who is internationally recognized as one of the most versatile composers in the field of music, explained Salas.

While some of Schikele's other works about various times of the year reflect the general feel of the season, he said "Brass Calendar" focuses on "a specific holiday or otherwise significant day or period in each month."

The concert is a joint presentation of the SFA College of Fine Arts and School of Music. Cole Concert Hall is located in the Wright Music Building on the SFA campus, 2210 Alumni Dr.

Tickets are $5 for adults, $4 for seniors and $2 for students. For tickets or more information, please visit www.finearts.sfasu.edu or call (936) 468-6407 or (888) 240-ARTS.
