NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The Swingin' Axes and Swingin' Aces jazz bands of Stephen F. Austin State University will present a joint concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 4, in Cole Concert Hall on the SFA campus.

Under the direction of SFA Associate Professor Deb Scott, the Aces will open the concert with a varied program that includes Lars Halle's Mambo-style "Sonidos De La Calle"; Matt Harris' funk tune, "Whatsa Matta"; and Neal Hefti's famous swing piece, "Splanky."

The Axes, directed by SFA Associate Professor Gary Wurtz, will present a program that includes "Every Summer Night" and "Better Days Ahead" by Pat Metheny, Steely Dan's "Aja" as arranged for the Woody Herman band, and Chick Corea's "500 Miles High."

Among the students to be featured during the Axes' program are Humble senior Darron Carrington (alto saxophone), Brownsville senior Robert Palermo (tenor saxophone), and Gatesville graduate student Chris Schoppe (piano).

The concert is a joint presentation of the SFA College of Fine Arts and School of Music. Cole Concert Hall is located in the Wright Music Building, 2210 Alumni Dr.
