“SFA offers a quality education, with many opportunities for transformational experiences, on a beautiful campus in the East Texas pines.”

What drew you to the higher education world?

After earning my bachelor’s and master’s degrees from SFA, I had a very successful teaching career in Texas public schools. Throughout my years of teaching kindergarten, I served as a cooperating teacher for many SFA student teachers. I enjoyed my work with these students and, when an opportunity came to join the early childhood faculty at SFA, I decided to share my love of teaching young children by helping prepare future teachers for the profession.

What do you enjoy most about your role at SFA?

In my role as associate provost, I am privileged to work with faculty and staff who are dedicated to student success. The purpose of our student success initiatives is to help students reach their goals of earning a college degree. We want all SFA students to engage in transformative learning experiences, curricular and non-curricular, to help them prepare for the challenges of living in our global society.

What do you hope students gain from SFA?

Students will have transformative experiences at SFA that will provide them with the knowledge, skills and dispositions to achieve success in their chosen profession. SFA students will graduate with the marketable skills and characteristics necessary to be the leaders of the future.

What are you passionate about outside of your role at SFA?

When I am not working, I love to travel. I enjoy all aspects of travel, from planning and anticipating the journey to the actual trip to enjoying the memories when I return.
