Family Adventure

There’s always something happening at SFA Gardens, from fishing and fancy tea parties to birdwatching and archery. Check out a few of our most popular events below:

Kid Fish

Join us at Lakeside Park in Nacogdoches for a morning of fun and fishing. This event, sponsored by Nacogdoches Parks and Recreation is held in January and is free and open to the public. SFA Gardens education team hosts Texas Parks and Wildlife Department Angler Education activities. Just bring your family, your fishing gear and plan to earn your Junior Angler Education certificate!

Backyard Birding

Learn more about your feathered friends at the Pineywoods Native Plant Center. Learn how to use binoculars, identify East Texas birds and go on birding hikes.  Join the avian Olympics to compare your skills to those of your favorite birds and enjoy bird-themed arts and crafts. This event takes place in February and is free and open to the public.

Little Princess Tea Party

Grab your tiara and get ready for a magical day of treats, fairy gardens, magic and merriment at the Ruby M. Mize Azalea Garden! More information is available on the Little Princess Tea Party section Visit and Events page.

BioBlitz

Explore the Pineywoods Native Plant Center as a citizen scientist to locate as many diverse plant and animal species in this dynamic, hands-on event. Participants use the plant and wildlife identification app iNaturalist to track identified species, from mammals and reptiles to native trees and plants.  Join us for any hour-long session, or stay for all! This free event takes place each spring and is hosted by the SFA student chapter of the National Association of Interpretation, in partnership with SFA Gardens.

“Texas Tough” plant sales

Bring a wagon and swing by our twice-a-year plant sale, where you’ll find a variety of hard-to-find native plants, including heirlooms, perennials, shrubs and trees.
