Youth Educational Programs

Educational Outreach

SFA Gardens offers educational programs for children in kindergarten through fifth grade that are designed to get them outside and encourage curiosity about the natural world. Pre-visit packets include information to help educators and their students prepare for their visit to the Brundrett Conservation Education Building and the gardens. The packet also includes the Science Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills – or TEKS – that the activities will cover.

Bugs, Bees, Butterflies and Blossoms

This annual spring event is for students in kindergarten through third grade, and features activities that help students understand the tree lifecycle, the role of decomposers, the way honey is produced and the role of butterflies. Two sessions will be offered from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on both April 5 and April 19, 2024.

Wild About Science

This annual fall event allows fourth and fifth graders an opportunity to explore an ecosystem and discover ways that plants and animals are interconnected. Check back for more information or email sfagardens@sfasu.edu to be added to the contact list for this event.

Other educational programs

Educators, scout leaders and others who want to help children engage in science activities in the outdoors should contact SFA Gardens at sfagardens@sfasu.edu to book an educator-led visit to the gardens.

Pineywoods Summer Camp will return in Summer 2025.
