Advising

Student Resources

A source of guidance and support

In SFA’s Department of Languages, Cultures and Communication, we want all of our students to succeed and make the most of their time at SFA. As a language or communication major, you’ll work with a faculty advisor who will help you work toward your degree, track your progress and stay motivated.

Your advisor can answer questions and offer advice about career plans, internships, study abroad opportunities, graduate school and more.

Beyond degree plans

In addition to helping you keep track of your degree plan and register for classes, your advisor can help you:

  • Choose the right courses and electives
  • Add or drop classes
  • Test out of language classes
  • Change your major or minor
  • Adjust to college life
  • Get back on track if you’re struggling academically

Faculty and staff

As a modern language or communication student at SFA, you’ll be assigned to a full-time faculty member who will act as your advisor and work with you through your entire college career. Academic advisors are assigned by the department when a student declares a major with us.

How to make an appointment

You can make an appointment with your advisor by calling 936.468.4303.
