Get out and get involved

At SFA, we encourage hands-on learning for our students. It gives you a chance to gain real-world experience while applying what you’ve learned in class.

Whether you’re taking advantage of our wonderful internship program or getting involved in one of the many exciting clubs around campus, there’s no shortage of ways to get involved at SFA.

Internship opportunities

Internships can be one of the most important parts of the learning process. Students get to experience daily life in their chosen field and gain valuable experience from professionals on the job.

Students at SFA have had the opportunity to experience some fantastic internship opportunities, such as the White House and major public relations and advertising firms.

Activities

Students in the SFA Department of Mass Communication love to test their skills against students around the country. Our students regularly compete in American Advertising Federation student competitions, including the National Student Advertising Competition.

In addition, students studying mass communication at SFA hold a media conference, providing workshops and talks on topics such as social media use in traditional media and things you should know before you graduate.

Find an internship

Students interested in the many exciting internship opportunities at SFA are encouraged to first find the internship that they wish to participate in and then contact an advisor.

Study abroad

Experience new places and learn about other cultures by participating in a study abroad program. SFA’s mass communication students have visited television stations, advertising and public relations agencies and magazines around the world. Past study abroad locations include England, Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany and France.

To learn more about study abroad opportunities for mass communication students, contact Dr. John Allen Hendricks at jhendricks@sfasu.edu or 936.468.4001.

Love a good challenge?

If competitions and challenges interest you, you’ve come to the right place. Students at SFA love to get out there and test their skills against the other students across the country.

To find out how you can get involved in these competitions, contact Dr. John Allen Hendricks at jhendricks@sfasu.edu or 936.468.4001.
