With over 90 National and State Parks, and 9 National and State Forests, Texas offers plenty to do in the outdoors including Backpacking and Hiking.
Join us for a Saturday of outdoor skill developments as we learn about backpacking as part of your backcountry experience. We will cover backcountry basics, food planning and preparation, trip and gear planning. In the afternoon, we'll take a practice hike on the Lanana Creek trail.

Enchanted Rock State Natural Area encompasses just over 1,640 acres, containing the second largest batholith in the US and the third largest in the world. The pink granite offers super-coarse crack climbing and incredibly smooth slab routes. E-rock offers every type of climbing: slab, crack, face, aid and tons of bouldering. Ever wanted to learn how to climb outside? Here's your chance.

Love the outdoors but need more exposure to begin enjoying adventure trips on your own? Part of our Nature Near You series, SFA students will have an opportunity to learn how to plan and execute a backpacking trip safely and comfortably while enjoying a variety of aesthetic and educational experiences through pines, bottomland hardwoods, boggy sloughs, and upland forests. Get out and stretch your legs with us for the weekend!

Cost: $90The Leave No Trace Center for Outdoor Ethics, based in Boulder, CO, provides educational opportunities for outdoor enthusiasts aimed at developing low-impact practices related to outdoor recreation. The Trainer Course is a vital component of the nationwide Leave No Trace program and assists student participants in learning more about the seven principles of Leave No Trace.
Trainer Courses are designed for educators, guides, agency employees and other outdoor professionals. Successful graduates of the Trainer Course gain the skills to teach Leave No Trace techniques and ethics to their clients, friends and family, and are prepared to offer official Leave No Trace Awareness Workshops in a variety of settings-such as schools, camps, parks, wilderness and front country areas.
Now available to SFA students at a deeply discounted rate, this condensed weekend adventure course offers official Leave No Trace Trainer certificates and educational materials to participants who successfully complete the curriculum.

Stuck in town for Thanksgiving Break? Join us and other students for a weekend on the Angelina River. We will travel to the Angelina National Forest and spend two nights on the river, ending at Martin Dyes State Park.
