Our Outdoor Pursuits Clinic Series provides instruction and information on a variety of topics such as outdoor pursuits, travel and environmental awareness. All clinics are free of charge and we only require an inquisitive mind to attend. So, be sure to spend some time with us learning something new…and we promise, no EXAMS at the end! See you there!

Eating for the Environment

• Want to learn how you can eat better for yourself and for the world? We will meet up to talk about the benefits of eating locally both on a personal and global level. As we talk, we will make a trip to the Nacogdoches Farmer’s Market for a firsthand look at local foods. We will conclude our day with a healthy, local, picnic in the Lanana Creek Park.

Rock Climbing 101
September 23rd • 7 p.m. – 9 p.m.

• Interested in learning the difference between a jug and a sloper? Or maybe just want some solid pointers on how to keep yourself on the wall? Let our Outdoor Pursuits staff put you onto the road to becoming a better climber! We’ll discuss things like: basic techniques and their uses, the importance of balance, the strong upper body myth, bouldering vrs. toproping, proper diet and strength training and the benefits of climbing.
Mountain Biking 101
October 10th • 9 a.m. – Noon
Outdoor Center Back Door
• There is nothing like flying through forest trails with nothing but 25 pounds of steel between your legs! Let us teach you some of the tricks of the trade so that you, too can develop the skills necessary to safely negotiate mountain bike terrain. The skills portion will be followed by an exhilarating ride through the local Nacogdoches trails.
Paddling 101
October 28th • 6 p.m. -8 p.m.
HPE Indoor Pool
• Come learn the basic strokes and maneuvers of kayaking and canoeing. Learn rescue techniques, how to read a river, how to get in and out of your boat in the water and how to deal with a flooded boat. You’ll feel like a pro the next time you’re out on the waters!
