The school offers three outstanding and comprehensive programs. The accounting degree programs cover concepts of financial accounting, managerial accounting, auditing, taxation, and information systems for accounting and management. The school consists of ten faculty members, one administrative assistant and two graduate assistants. The number of accounting majors in any one semester averages approximately 400.
- At the 2012 Accounting Awards Banquet over $114,000 in scholarships were awarded to deserving accounting students.
- Beta Alpha Psi students gain real-world experience by providing tax assistance to local citizens through the Voluntary Income Tax Assistance program. Over 130 forms were filed in the spring.
- The school facilitates and encourages internship opportunities for students with local, regional, and national accounting firms and businesses. The majority of our students on spring 2012 internships returned with employment contracts in hand. There were 20 students on internships. These internships are typically at the graduate level.
Welcome from Director
Welcome to the Gerald W. Schlief School of Accountancy at Stephen F. Austin State University. We are an outstanding school where student success is our most important mission. I invite you to take a closer look at our school and all that we have to offer, from our undergraduate, Master of Professional Accountancy and Stand-Alone Master of Professional Accountancy programs to our internship opportunities. Our faculty is involved in research and shares a passion for teaching. Each year we host an Accounting Career Fair and an Awards Banquet which provide students opportunities for interactions with professionals. Additionally, professionals are frequently on campus as guest speakers in classes, Continuing Professional Education Programs, Accounting Club and Beta Alpha Psi. If you experience any problems or have questions, feel free to talk with any of the faculty members.
Cordially,
