Following is a list of tuition and fees charged to SFA students. All are subject to change at any time by the Texas legislature and/or the SFA Board of Regents. Additionally, if there is any discrepancy between the information listed below and the actual legislation or Board action/policy, the legislation and Board action/policy shall prevail.
Tuition (Statutory Tuition)
The tuition rate depends on the student's residency status. The University is guided by state law in determining the resident status of students. Registering under the proper residency classification is the responsibility of the student. If there is any question of the student’s right to classification as a resident of Texas, it is his/her obligation to raise the question with the Office of Admissions prior to registration. Tuition rates are established by the Texas legislature and the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board. Texas Education Code (TEC) Section 54.051.
Required to be paid by each student on a per credit hour basis. Designated Tuition rates are established by the SFA Board of Regents. Authorized by TEC Section 54.0513.
Additional tuition required to be paid by each graduate student. Authorized by TEC Section 54.008.
Students attempting a course for three or more times at a public institution in Texas will be required to pay an additional $100.00 per semester credit hour for the repeated course. This additional tuition for repeated courses will be assessed for courses after the second attempt. Authorized by TEC Section 54.014.
Academic Advising Fee
Required to be paid by each student to support academic advising services. Authorized by TEC Section 54.504.
International Education Fee
Required to be paid by each student to be used to assist students participating in international student exchange or study programs. Authorized by TEC Section 54.5132.
Required to be paid by each student to support the services provided by the library. Authorized by TEC Section 55.16.
Required to be paid by each student to support the cost of printing and distributing general University publications. Authorized by TEC Section 55.16.
Recreational Sports Fee
Required to be paid by each student to purchase equipment for and to construct, operate, and maintain recreational sports facilities and programs. Authorized by TEC Section 54.5201.
Registration and Record Fee
Required to be paid by each student registering for courses to cover the administrative cost of registration, including add/drops within the registration periods and providing transcripts to students currently enrolled. Authorized by TEC Section 54.504.
Student Center Fee
Required to be paid by each student to cover the costs of operating, maintaining, improving, equipping, and financing the University Center. Authorized by TEC Section 54.520.
Student Services Fee
Required to be paid by each student to support various student programs and activities. Authorized by TEC Section 54.503.
Required to be paid by each student to support the use of technology throughout the University. Authorized by TEC Section 55.16.
A convenience fee will be charged for credit card payments on student accounts. The convenience fee is non-refundable.
Assessed for some courses to cover the costs of course materials, services and equipment repair. Authorized by TEC Sec. 54.504. Amounts vary.
One-time deposit to cover any amounts owed by the student to the institution. Refundable upon withdrawal or graduation from SFA, or upon request if the student is no longer enrolled at SFA. Authorized by TEC Sec. 54.502.
Installment Payment Plan Fee
Assessed to each student electing to pay tuition and fees in accordance with the terms of their Installment Payment Plan. Authorized by TEC Section 54.007.
Assessed to each student enrolled in a laboratory course to cover the facilities and materials used in that lab. Authorized by TEC Sec. 54.501. Amounts vary.
Late Add Fee
Assessed to each student registering or adding a course after the 4th class day for Summer or after the 12th class day for Fall or Spring.
Late Installment Fee
Assessed to a student each time he/she fails to make the full installment payment by the due date in accordance with the terms of their Installment Payment Plan. Authorized by TEC Section 54.007.
Late Registration Fee
Assessed to each student registering during the "Late Registration" period (1st-4th class day for Summer; 1st-12th class day for Fall or Spring). Authorized by TEC Section 54.504.
Out-of-State Electronic Fee
The Out-of-State Electronic Fee is a reduced tuition rate designed to make SFA's distance education programs more competitive nationwide. The rate is available for students who are enrolled in web-based programs at SFA and who are also classified as non-resident and who are living out-of-state.
Students wishing to park on campus, whether living on campus or commuting, are required to purchase a parking permit. See the University Police Department for parking regulations and fees.
Post Office Box Rental
Each student living in University housing is required to rent a post office box at the on-campus U.S. Post Office.
Assessed to each student who re-registers in a course from which he/she has been dropped after 5 pm on the 5th class day of a regular Summer term or after 5 pm on the 13th class day of a Fall or Spring semester.
Returned Check Fee (including any form of payment returned for any reason)
A student whose payment is returned for any reason will incur a fee. Authorized by TEC Section 54.504. The student may not register for a future term until the bill is paid in full.
Stone Fort Yearbook
The Stone Fort yearbook may be purchased at the time of registration. Contact the Student Publications Office for information and price.
Student Identification Card
A student ID card is required to participate in many activities and receive various services on campus.
