Service Provider Positions

Note Taker

Attend class with student and take thorough, detailed notes; may perform duties of test reader/scribe to include reading exams and marking answer sheets; lab scribe, assisting in laboratory environment; and/or homework scribe as assigned; work is performed independently under the supervision of Disability Services. Graduation from high school or equivalent required; no previous experience necessary; must be able to write very legibly; must be able to take good, detailed notes and accommodate the disabled student; must have completed 12 college credit hours, with overall 2.5 GPA; must include unofficial transcript or grade report; a sample of timed note taking from a recorded lecture will be completed at screening.  Must be able to coordinate schedule with the personal and academic schedule of the disabled student for whom services will be provided; ability to establish effective working relations with disabled students; dependability and punctuality a MUST, as are patience and courteousness; must be able to maintain confidentiality.

Salary - $7.25/hr

 

Note Taker/Typist

Requirements of note taker with additional requirement of 40 wpm minimum typing score. 

Salary - $8.70/hr

 

Reader/Scribe

Reading textbooks onto cassette tapes or directly to disabled student; reading for exams and marking answer sheet; May be assigned as lab scribe, assisting in laboratory environment; or assigned as homework scribe; work is performed independently under the supervision of Disability Services. Graduation from high school or equivalent required; strong oral reader with good command of the English language; well developed verbal skills and vocabulary; ability to read standardized paragraph at screening. 

Salary - $7.25/hr

 

Tutor

Providing tutorial services on primarily a one-on-one basis; individually assisting students with disabilities in various academic courses; work is performed independently under the supervision of Disability Services.  Graduation from high school or equivalent with 65 college credit hours, and 3.00 GPA or above in tutoring area required; college degree is preferred; must include unofficial transcript or grade report.  Must be able to coordinate schedule with the personal and academic schedule of the disabled student for whom services will be provided; ability to establish effective working relations with disabled students; dependability and punctuality a MUST, as are patience and courteousness; must be able to maintain confidentiality. 

Salary - $10-$15/hr commensurate

 

Sign Language Interpreter

Providing assistance to hearing impaired persons by sign language primarily in the classroom environment but occasions to sign at other events may arise; work is performed independently under the supervision of Disability Services.  Graduation from high school or equivalent required; some college course work preferred; Interpreter Certification preferred; if not certified, proof of completion of an educational interpreter course such as SPH 478 is required; experience is required; evaluation of skills by staff interpreter will be completed.  Must be able to coordinate schedule with the personal and academic schedule of the disabled student for whom the services will be provided; ability to establish effective working relations with disabled students; dependability and punctuality a MUST, as are patience and courteousness; must be able to maintain confidentiality.  

Salary - commensurate with experience
