Student
Welcome

The East Texas TWO-STEP Project (Technology Workforce Opportunities through Seamless Transitions and Educational Partnerships) allows for a seamless transition from an associate degree in specified areas at the community college to a Bachelor of Applied Arts and Sciences degree at Stephen F. Austin State University.

Need for the Project

Associate of Arts degrees usually consist of academic and liberal arts courses that can easily be transferred to four-year universities and applied towards a bachelor's degree. Associate of Applied Sciences degrees usually consist of academic and liberal arts courses combined with technical courses. Usually technical/vocational programs are designed to enable students to obtain immediate employment in a highly technical field. Therefore, these programs usually do not transfer to four-year degrees. An objective of the East Texas TWO-STEP Project is to develop pathways that encourage students with technical and vocational degrees to complete the B.A.A.S. degree, by enabling them to utilize up to 48 hours of technical course work towards the degree.

Funded by the Carl D. Perkins Vocational and Technical Act of 1998 through the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, the primary purpose of the project is to facilitate the seamless transfer of students in specific articulated college programs by marketing programs using a university outreach coordinator. While all technical students and programs are considered important, nine institutions in East Texas have been heavily targeted in Project Year 1. The Project staff wishes to add more institutions as quickly as possible. The initial institutions are: Tyler Junior College, Panola College, Kilgore College, Angelina College, Texas State Technical College - Marshall, Blinn College, Trinity Valley Community College, and colleges in North Harris Montgomery Community College District and San Jacinto College District. Students from other institutions may be eligible for the program.
