Field Experience

Field Experience is required by the state of Texas for a person to become certified.

Post Baccalaureate Initial Certification (PBIC) Options

Option 1:

Student teaching: a minimum 13-week full time assignment in a partner school district. (This is an unpaid position.) Apply for student teaching.

Option 2:

One year (two complete semesters of consecutive internships) as a full time teacher in an accredited school district. This option requires that you are teaching within the grade level and content area of your target certification. This option requires students to be eligible for probationary certification. Additional fees apply to pursue this option.

Any individual admitted to the Teacher Education Program who wishes to substitute experience and/or professional training directly related to the certificate being sought for part of the preparation requirements may apply to the Associate Dean for a committee review. The Associate Dean will appoint a committee composed of professors from the teaching field and professional education to interview the person, review the person’s experience and make a decision (Texas Administrative Code Rule 227.10).
