Filing an Official Degree Plan

Official Degree Plan

When you have completed about 40 hours of course credit, (or by the second semester of your Sophomore year) you should be ready to file a degree plan. If you have not yet done so, please choose a certificate plan, EC-6 or 4-8, that most closely suits your needs and interests as a future teacher. Go to room 118 in the Education Building and tell them that you are ready to file your Degree Plan. You will be given a date to return to that office and take the INCOMPLETE form to the Elementary Education office. DO NOT KEEP THIS FORM! Deliver it immediately upon your approval to the Elementary Education office.

Your Degree Plan must be routed through several offices with various people carefully checking for each class you have taken. They try to find the best possible way to use each of them. This takes time. Please be patient. In about two or three weeks, this form is completed and you may pick it up in the Dean's office. You will sign it at that time. A photocopy will be given to you and the actual Degree Plan will be filed. The courses you need to complete will be listed on the right side of the form.

Final Degree Plan

Two semesters before you intend to graduate, you need to apply for a Final Degree Plan. To begin this process, please visit the Rusk Building, Room 202. When you receive your Final Degree Plan, you must carefully examine this document to be sure that it is complete and correct. Now is the time to fix anything that does not seem right. It will list all of the courses remaining to be completed. Be sure to ask about anything you do not understand.

Be sure you are current with the latest Texas certification (TExES) information that might impact your program.
