Calculating GPA

To calculate GPA, the student should only count courses that have been taken at SFA. If a course that is part of the program has been transferred in, it will count towards graduation but not towards the GPA. Students should list the courses taken at SFA, grades earned and the credit hours for those courses. Use the steps below to calculate GPA:

Step 1: For each course, multiply the number of credit hours times the points earned for each grade.

(A=4, B=3, C=2, D=1, F=0)

Examples:
GEO 121 3 hrs Grade of A calculates to 3 x 4 = 12 points earned
BIO 121 4 hrs Grade of C calculates to 4 x 2 = 8 points earned
HMS 241 3 hrs Grade of B calculates to 3 x 3 = 9 points earned
HMS 241L 1 hr Grade of D calculates to 1 x 1 = 1 point earned

Step 2: After doing this for every course taken at SFA, add the total number of points earned.

Step 3: Divide this figure by the total number of credit hours and you will have your GPA.

Note: Do not count course hours when repeated a second time.
