Student Organizations

Collegiate Middle Level Association (CMLA)

CMLA is the SFASU collegiate level chapter of the Texas Middle School Association (TMSA) and the National Middle School Association (NMSA). This organization is for students seeking to become professional educators in the middle grades (grades 4-8). CMLA offers many wonderful opportunities for future teachers in the middle level program. It also provides a great way to interact with other students at SFA with the same goals. Members of CMLA benefit from leadership skills, relaxation and thoughtful discourse, a place for friendship, a network of positive support, and lots of fun. Annual events include attendance at the NMSA Conference, attendance at the TMSA Conference, sponsoring a Middle School Dance, participating in SFA Homecoming as well as winter and spring socials.

Early Childhood Organization (ECHO)

The purpose of the organization is to promote unity among early childhood students, to serve children in the community through various service projects, to benefit the members by sharing materials and ideas and to promote professional development for the members. ECHO is designed primarily for students who are EC-6 majors, but we welcome other majors who are interested in working with or on behalf of young children. Typically, ECHO meets on the first and third Tuesday/Thursday of each month at 5:30 PM. We meet at the Early Childhood Lab, Room 126. We have a program or speaker for each meeting - usually a professional in the field of early childhood education. The meetings usually last about one hour and training certificates are issued to all students who attend. Membership into ECHO becomes effective upon payment of dues at the beginning of the semester.
