The Bert P. and Mary Hilton Appleberry Scholarship

Endowed by Bert and Mary Appleberry, Professor Emerita of the Elementary Education Department, with a matching grant from the Dow Chemical Company.

Recipient must have completed the freshman year and be in good standing at Stephen F. Austin State University. A student in good standing at another accredited college or university transferring immediately to SFA will be considered.
Scholarships will be awarded on the basis of character, potential for successs as a teacher, scholastic achievement, and financial need. A grade point average of at least 3.0 is required.
Recipient must be an elementary education major, preferably with a reading specialization.
Scholarships will be derived from interest on the principal of the Bert P. and Mary Hilton Appleberry Scholarship Fund.
One half of the scholarship will be awarded in the fall. Grades and academic performance will be reviewed at the end of the fall semester. If a grade point average of at least 3.0 has been maintained, and general performance and attitude are satisfactory, the remaining half will be awarded for the spring semester.
A selection committee appointed by the Chairman of the Elementary Education Department will choose the recipient.
Students shall apply through the Alumni Office.
The deadline for application is February 1 of each year.
