Child and Family Development

The Child and Family Development major provides an in-depth understanding of growth, change, and development of the child and family. The program integrates a life-span and family systems approach. This knowledge base has proven to be essential for practical application in the helping and service-oriented professions.

The course of study involves general education, human sciences core courses, and specialized courses in the following areas:

Degree Plan

Child and Family Development majors may choose one of two options for degree completion. The first option includes choosing an 18 hour minor area of study. Suggested minors that enhance career opportunities include early childhood intervention, gerontology, rehabilitation services, psychology, and early childhood education. A second option for Child and Family Development majors leads to teacher certification at the secondary level as a family and consumer sciences teacher.
