The Child and Family Development major provides an in-depth understanding of growth, change and development of children, adults, family and integrates a life-span, multicontextual, and family systems approach. This knowledge base has proven to be essential for professional careers and service-oriented professions.

Child and Family Development majors may choose one of two options for degree completion. The first option includes choosing an 18 hour area of study. Suggested minors that enhance career opportunities include early childhood intervention, rehabilitation services, psychology, and early childhood education. A second option for Child and Family Development major leads to teacher certification at the secondary level as family and consumer sciences teacher (Contact Mary Olle ollemary@sfasu.edu if you are interested in teaching certification).
