Internships
in Child and Family Development
- Students receiving credit for the internship in Child and Family Development must complete 120 hours for 3 semester credit hours. With faculty supervision, students make arrangements for appropriate internship placements.
- The final placement decision depends upon agreements between the student, faculty supervisor, and an agency representative. Letter grades (A-F) are assigned by the faculty supervisor.
- Internships are taken during the senior year. Internship sites should be related to the student's career interests and objectives. An internship guideline sheet outlining the sequence for a successful internship is available from the internship advisor.
- Child and Family Development students have had successful internship experiences at diverse sites in the local community as well as in the metropolitan areas of Dallas, Houston, and San Antonio, Texas. Internship sites have included:
- Early Childhood Intervention Programs
- Child Specialist Programs in Hospital Settings
- Head Start Early Childhood Programs
- Women's Shelters
- Youth Programs such as the Boys and Girls Clubs
