Dietetic Internship Program Description

The SFA Dietetic Internship program is divided into two components: graduate education and supervised practice at specific approved rotation sites.

GRADUATE EDUCATION: The graduate courses are designed to expand the knowledge base used by a competent, entry-level Registered Dietitian. During the long semesters the didactic classes meet on Monday afternoon or evening only.

SUPERVISED PRACTICE:

The supervised practice component is divided into rotations at specifically approved sites, which will afford you the opportunity to achieve the core competencies that have been established by the Commission on Accreditation of Dietetics Education. Days for supervised practice are GENERALLY Tuesday – Friday from 8:00 – 5:00, although days and hours may vary with the facility. Some weekend work may be required. The facility preceptor may require earlier or later times.

 

The general areas of supervised practice required by the Commission on Accreditation of Dietetics Education are as follows: Clinical, Community, and Foodservice Management. Interns must accrue a minimum of 320 hours of supervised practice in each area. These hours are obtained by the following rotations:

Additionally you must accrue a minimum of one week of enrichment experience(s) that have been individualized to meet your personal learning needs. You may select from any of the facilities and preceptors on the following list including sites where you have already completed the assigned minimum contact hours or we can work together to get you a unique enrichment that will meet your interests.
