Internships
- Students receiving credit for the practicum in Interior design must complete
HMS 419 before enrolling in HMS 420.
- The Internship must include 200 hours of work experience for 3 semester
credit hours. Students are responsible for arrangements for appropriate
practicum placement. Faculty must approve placement the semester prior
to beginning the practicum/internship. It is recommended that students
work under the supervision of a licensed interior designer.
- The final placement decision depends upon agreements between the student,
faculty, and the firm. Mandatory pass/fail grades are assigned by the faculty
based on the evaluations and required assignments.
- Practicums are normally completed during the senior year. Practicum sites
should be related to the student's career interests and objectives. A practicum
packet outlining the sequence is available and is reviewed during the HMS
419 course.
- Interior Design students have enjoyed successful practicum experiences
at diverse sites in the local community as well as metropolitan areas of
Dallas, Houston, Austin, Chicago, etc. Practicum sites have included:

- Cantoni's - Dallas/Houston, TX
- Corgan, Inc. - Dallas/Ft. Worth, TX
- Faulkner Design Group - Dallas, TX
- Furniture Market Group - Dallas, TX
- Judson P. Leonard Architects - Dallas, TX
- Lockwood, Andrews & Newman - Houston, TX
- Neiman Marcus - Dallas, TX
- Watkins, Hamilton, Ross Architects - Houston, TX
- Students may seek practicum experiences in any specialized area of commercial
or residential design.
