Mission and Goals
MISSION STATEMENT
The mission of the Stephen F. Austin Graduate Entry-Level Athletic Training Education Program (GATEP) is to provide a student-focused learning environment by introducing the athletic training student to various disciplines and applications in Allied Health professions in preparation for a career in Athletic Training and other related fields.
CURRICULM GOALS / OBJECTIVES
The main objective of the GATEP’s Master of Science in Athletic Training is to prepare the student to become a Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC) by the Board of Certification (BOC). Athletic training students will be prepared in the development and mastery of athletic training competencies and proficiencies as set forth by the National Athletic Trainers’ Association - Educational Council (NATA-EC), Board of Certification (BOC), and the CAATE. - Demonstrate proficiency in the understanding and application of therapeutic modalities and therapeutic rehabilitation equipment in the use of injuries.

- Assess the development of a desire for professional development and responsibilities through a progression of clinical rotations, attendance of professional organizations within the profession of Athletic Training, and understanding of effective supervision and management in the athletic training clinic.
- Complete the Board of Certification (BOC) requirements for eligibility of the national board examination through the completion of the competencies and proficiencies as set forth and endorsed by the NATA-EC, BOC, and the CAATE.
- Apply the "Code of Ethics" of the National Athletic Trainers' Association, the Texas Athletic Training Advisory Board, and the Texas Department of State Health Services throughout the didactic and clinical experiences.
