Dr. Julia N. Ballenger, Ph.D.

Dr. Julia N. Ballenger, Ph.D.Julia N. Ballenger, Ph.D., associate professor and previous coordinator of the principal preparation program, received her doctoral degree from the University of Texas at Austin. Ballenger is currently the first E. J. Campbell Distinguished Professor in the Department of Secondary Education and Educational Leadership. Ballenger has extensive experience in public school as a teacher, counselor, consultant, and administrator. She also served several years as a program administrator at the Texas Education Agency in Austin. Her areas of specialization include the principalship, administrative theory, and organization behavior. Primarily a qualitative researcher, Ballenger’s research agenda includes micropolitics, leadership preparation, and social justice issues. Her article, Principal’s Use of Micropolitical Strategies to Influence Teachers’ Instructional Practices and Curriculum Content, was recently published in the Scholar-Practitioner Quarterly. She also has co-authored several articles and book chapters. She served as co-editor for the Texas Council of Women School Executives 2004-2005 Monograph Series, “Leadership: A Bridge to Ourselves.” Ballenger also serves as the coordinator of the Educational Leadership Project DEVELOP grant. This project was awarded $722,016 for a three-year period. The primary goal of this project is to ensure that each of the 21 partner school districts has talented individuals with the skills required to lead their diverse campuses to recognized or exemplary status.
