Nacogdoches ISD renewed their academic partnership in the fall under the direction of the new Superintendent Dr. Fred Hayes. Woden ISD followed in spring and was the first to take part in the Early College High School.
SFA welcomed 17 grade nine students from Woden High School to campus this spring semester. Their first class, SOC 137, Introduction to Sociology, taught by Dr. Jerry Williams.
The Perkins College of Education hosted an Assessment Day on September 23rd. One hundred twenty faculty members were in attendance. The second Assessment Day was held on March 30th with 75% of faculty in attendance. At this assessment day, faculty explored the value of acquiring accreditation or national recognition by programs, departments/schools, the college, and the university. Workshops on issues and practices related to program and student learning outcomes were provided.
Dr. Vikki Boatman, Dr. Alan Larson, Dr. Heather Olson Beal, Ms. Mary Olle, and Dr. Jay Thornton were recognized as departmental/school 2012 Teaching Excellence Honorees and each was presented a framed certificate and a stipend at the PCOE reception on April 4th. Dr. Heather Olson Beal was also recognized as the James I. Perkins College of Education Teaching Excellence Honoree. She was also recognized at the SFA Teaching Excellence ceremony on April 17.

Congratulations to Heather Stewart, Administrative Assistant in Elementary Education, who received the President’s Award at the recent Annual Staff Service Awards April 5th.
SFA Partnered with Nacogdoches Daily Sentinel, & Nacogdoches County Chamber of Commerce in welcoming nearly 700 Nacogdoches city and county grade eight students along with over 50 Nacogdoches city and county exhibitors to the first Download Your Future Career Exploration Fair on February 9th. Students were able to speak with representatives from different businesses about job opportunities and the steps to reaching those career goals.
Dr. Karen Embry-Jenlink will lead a cross cultural course to China this June. The Department of Secondary Education and Educational Leadership is excited to be able to offer this course as an elective in the Educational Leadership Doctoral Program.
