Important change to Pell Grant Program:

Important Changes to Financial Aid for Repeated Coursework effective July 1, 2011. New Federal regulations (Retaking course Work (Sec. 668.2(b)) (FR p. 666948)) limit student’s eligibility of Federal aid with regards to repeated courses. (For more information see here.)

Lifetime Pell Eligibility Limit: Changes were made to the Title IV student aid programs by the recently enacted Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2012 (Public Law 112-74), amendment to HEA section 401(c)(5). It reduced the duration of a student’s eligibility to receive a Federal Pell Grant. Students can now receive 12 semesters (or its equivalent) compared to 18 semesters (or its equivalent) as stated in the HEA previously.

Important Financial Aid information for 2012-2013

New federal regulations beginning July 1, 2012, Graduate students are no longer eligible for Direct Subsidized Loans. Graduate Direct loan limits will stay the same; however, all funds will only be available through the Direct Unsubsidized loan program. Direct Loans for Undergraduates will stay the same. State Programs

Currently, the Texas State Legislation is in the budgeting process for state programs such as Texas Grant, B-on-Time Loan and the Top 10% State Scholarship. Once this process is complete, more information will be available.
