NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The Stephen F. Austin State University School of Art will open the 24th Annual Art Alliance Spring Student Art Show with a reception and awards presentation from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Monday, April 7, in the Art Building Galleries off of Wilson Drive.
At 6:30 p.m., Dr. John W. Goodall, associate dean of the College of Fine Arts and interim director of the School of Art, will announce the winners of the show and the recipients of the 2008-2009 art scholarships.
The annual exhibition, sponsored by the Art Alliance student organization, provides SFA undergraduate and graduate art students the opportunity to exhibit their work in a competitive show juried by a professional art critic, explained Dr. Jill Carrington, SFA associate professor of art history and the group'sfaculty advisor.
"We are delighted that Roger Shimomura, the juror for 'TEXAS NATIONAL 2008' has agreed to juror our show also," Carrington said. "From the pieces he selects for the exhibition, he will also designate the First, Second and Third Place winners and Honorable Mention in both graduate and undergraduate categories and the overall Best of Show."
The show will continue through Friday, April 11. Regular hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Admission to the opening and show is free. For more information, please call the School of Art office at (936) 468-4804.
