SFA to Premiere Student Film, 'Skipping Tomorrow'

Sylvia Bierschenk - February 20, 2008

NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The Stephen F. Austin State University College of Fine Arts, School of Art and School of Music will premiere a new feature-length film, "Skipping Tomorrow," at 9 p.m. Friday, Feb. 29, and at 7 and 9 p.m. Saturday, March 1, at The Art Center @ The Old Opera House.

The comedy, written, filmed and edited by students in the SFA School of Art's cinematography program, is aimed primarily at college students, according to Bill Arscott, SFA professor of art and the film's executive producer.

The plot revolves around Chevy Gray's return to his college town for a friend's wedding and a chance to relive old times with old buddies, Arscott said. "But Chevy quickly sees that if he and his friends can't find a way to accept each other, untold secrets could ruin their bond . . . and the wedding."

"If you liked 'Rushmore' and 'Superbad,' you'll probably like 'Skipping Tomorrow,'" said the film's director, Rob Senska, graduate student from Forestburg, S.D.

Principal actors include SFA alumni Chris Gamel, playing Chevy; Geoffrey C. Gibson portraying Lonestar Cleveland; and J. Alan Spence, playing Bonus Mattt. Keller senior Sarah McKinney plays Kat, and Austin senior Guy Vizard portrays Matt.

Brad Maule, former star of "General Hospital" and SFA adjunct faculty member, portrays one of Chevy's former professors and served as the film's producer.

The film's script was written by Senska and SFA alumna Mindy Bledsoe primarily between January and March, 2007, and preproduction work began shortly thereafter. The film was shot in and around Nacogdoches in June. The fall semester was devoted to editing.

SFA composition students, led by SFA Associate Professor Stephen Lias, composed the entire score, and digital media students designed the DVD menu. All total, the project involved at least 50 SFA students.

DVDs of the movie will be available for purchase at the premiere for $10 each. Visit www.myspace.com/skippingtomorrow to view the movie's trailer.

Tickets for the premiere showings are $5 for adults and $2 for students. Seating is limited, and tickets may be purchased in advance through the SFA Fine Arts Box Office, located in Room 211 of the Griffith Fine Arts Building, or by calling (936) 468-6407 or (888) 240-ARTS.
