Julia Shan, seated, received second place in the fifth and sixth grade category of the 2008 Young Pianist Competition held Saturday, Feb. 16, at Texas State University in San Marcos. Shan is enrolled in the Stephen F. Austin State University Music Preparatory Division, studying under Dr. Ping-Ting Lan, who is pictured with her.

The daughter of Wieming Shan and Ning Xu of Nacogdoches, Shan is a sixth grade student at Regents Academy.
