NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS -
Pianists, vocalists and instrumentalists from the Stephen F. Austin State University School of Music faculty will be the featured performers during the annual Pi Kappa Lambda Recital at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 25, in Cole Concert Hall on the SFA campus.
"Attendance is always very high for this annual event which benefits the Pi Kappa Lambda Scholarship," said Brian Utley, SFA assistant professor of music and coordinator of this year's recital. "Musical styles will range from classical to jazz, and, in general, the performers present upbeat, fun pieces for the audience."
Performers include pianists Mario Ajero, Mary Cooper, Gene H. Moon, Linda Parr, Ron Petti and James Pitts. Vocalists include soprano Debbie Berry, mezzo-sopranos Deborah Dalton and Nita Hudson, tenor Bruce Fowler and baritone Scott LaGraff.
Instrumentalists include Christopher Ayer, clarinet; Jennifer Dalmas, violin; Charles Gavin, horn; John W. Goodall, oboe; Christina Guenther, flute; Evgeni Raychev, cello; J.D. Salas, tuba; Deb Scott, trombone; Utley, saxophone; and Gary Wurtz, trumpet.
"While most of the selections on the program are 'traditional' pairings of soloist and piano, or simply solo piano, we also have several small ensembles performing," explained Utley. "For instance, Scott (LaGraff) and Bruce (Fowler) will sing a selection from Giacomo Puccini's "La Boheme," accompanied by Ron Petti, and Chris (Ayer) and I will present a clarinet/saxophone duet."
The concert is a joint presentation of the SFA College of Fine Arts and School of Music.
Tickets are $5 for adults, $4 for seniors and $2 for students. For tickets or more information, please (936) 468-6407 or (888) 240-ARTS.
